Qwen Code is an open-source CLI coding agent maintained by Alibaba’s Qwen team, forked from Gemini CLI and optimized for Qwen3-Coder models. It supports agentic loops for editing code across a repository, executing shell commands, browsing files, and integrating with MCP tools. Qwen Code is OpenAI-API compatible, so it can also drive other models, but it is tuned for Qwen-specific function calling and long-context features. It pairs naturally with Alibaba Cloud’s hosted Qwen API.
