Deep Research is a ChatGPT capability built on a specialized version of OpenAI’s o3 reasoning model that autonomously conducts multi-step web research (searching, browsing, reasoning over results, and iterating) to produce thorough, cited reports on complex topics. Tasks typically take 5-30 minutes and produce documents 5-30 pages long with inline source attribution. Deep Research is available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Team, and Enterprise users. It set the standard for the autonomous research agent category in 2025.
