Manus is a general-purpose autonomous agent from Chinese startup Butterfly Effect that operates a sandboxed virtual computer to perform tasks end-to-end, web research, document generation, code writing, data analysis, and operational workflows. While not exclusively a research tool, Manus is widely used for research-heavy tasks because of its ability to browse the web, parse files, execute code, and produce broad deliverables. It supports asynchronous, long-running tasks and shares replays of agent action traces for transparency. Manus gained significant attention in 2025 as a leading Chinese AI agent product.
