DeepSeek Coder is a family of open-weight code LLMs from DeepSeek, available in various sizes for self-hosting and via DeepSeek’s API. The models achieve strong performance on coding benchmarks (HumanEval, MBPP, SWE-Bench) and are widely used as the foundation for self-hosted coding agents and as cost-efficient alternatives to closed frontier models. DeepSeek-Coder-V2 and successors significantly closed the gap with closed-source models in 2024-2025. DeepSeek has been highly influential in the OSS code model landscape.
