Casetext was an AI legal research platform offering AI-powered legal research and case analysis, acquired by Thomson Reuters in 2023 for $650M to form the foundation of CoCounsel. The Casetext brand is largely subsumed under CoCounsel now, with TR continuing to build on Casetext’s CARA AI research technology. Casetext was one of the earliest legal AI products to achieve broad attorney adoption and remains influential through its continuation as CoCounsel.
