Overview
AWS’s AI IDE focused on spec-driven development, where requirements, design, and tasks are first-class artifacts the agent works against.
Details
Kiro is an AI-powered IDE from AWS that emphasizes spec-driven development: instead of jumping straight to code, you collaborate with the agent to produce structured specs (requirements, design, tasks) which then drive implementation. Kiro includes hooks (event-triggered automations), steering files for project conventions, and agent modes for autonomous multi-step coding, all integrated with AWS services. It supports Claude and other models. Kiro launched publicly in 2025 as AWS’s standalone AI IDE.
