Adept ACT (and successors) was one of the foundational action transformer models, designed to use computers like humans (navigating UIs, clicking buttons, typing) to complete digital workflow tasks. Adept’s research influenced the broader category of computer-using AI agents. Most of Adept’s research and engineering team joined Amazon in 2024, with Adept’s technology continuing as an enterprise-focused product. Adept was one of the most influential early companies in agentic AI before its team’s transition to Amazon.
